About
The Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion (MICINN) is the major research funding organism in Spain. During the year 2005, the Ministry granted more than 3200 research projects. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DTHCS) had in 2005 a budget of 25 M€, and received almost 2000 applications, of which over 700 were granted.
Research on ageing is conducted in Spain through, mainly, three different institutions: the MICINN; the IMSERSO (Institute for the Elderly and Social Services, depending on the Ministry of Health and Social Services); and the Carlos III Institute for the Science of Health.
In the DTHCS, there are, at the present, no fewer than 20 active research projects focused on sociological, psychological and economical aspects on ageing, quality and style of life of the elderly, and so on.
