Stakeholder workshops

There were two workshops for high-level stakeholders to have input into the Road Map. These took place after each round of scientific and user workshops.

The first Stakeholder workshop was held in Brussels on 11th May 2010, and attracted over 150 research funders and policy makers.

The second stakeholder workshop was held in London on 18 May 2011, with over 60 attendees.

Summary

This workshop was intended for national and regional research policy makers and funders to introduce them to the first stage in the development of the Road Map and to ensure that their views are fed into the consultation process.

The morning session provided an opportunity for a review of FUTURAGE research priorities. Presentations will be made from the first round of national consultations and scientific priority setting workshops. Breakout sessions will follow to allow debate on the issues raised.

The afternoon session was hosted by the STOA Panel and to address the importance of ageing research for public policy in Europe.

Summary

FUTURAGE has responsibility for creating the definitive Road Map for Ageing Research which is intended to guide European research in this field over the next 10-15 years.

This workshop was intended for national and regional research policy makers and funders to have an opportunity to review and comment on the draft Road Map.

The workshop included presentations from the key priority areas of the draft Road Map and opportunities for both focused and open discussion.

The draft Road Map was developed during six distinct stages of consultation with member states, research funders, policy makers, scientists and end users since the project began in September 2009.

The Road Map was launched at a major European conference in Brussels in autumn 2011.
